STATE DRIVERS LICENSE EXAMINERS OFFICE

FIRST TIME ISSUANCE *DRIVERS TESTING *ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS

Every Alabama resident who operates any motorized vehicle must have a valid drivers license. All applicants whose Alabama license has been expired for over 3 years or out of state license has been expired for at least 1 year must pass the required drivers examination.

  • Former State License
  • Social Security Card-Must Reflect Current Name
  • $23.00 License Fee + $5.00 Transfer Fee

FOR LEARNERS LICENSE:

  • For Applicants 15 To 19 Years of Age One of The Following is Required: (High School Diploma,Certificate of Graduation From High School,GED Certificate and Certified Form DL-1-93 Student Enrollment/Exclusion Status (Forms Available at Secondary Schools)
  • $23.00 License Fee + $5.00 Test Fee

THE APPLICANT MUST APPLY IN PERSON PRIOR TO 10:00 AM AND 2:00 PM BEFORE ROAD TEST IS GIVEN.

FOR DRIVERS ROAD TESTING
You must furnish a vehicle for the road test. Sixteen year old applicants must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The examiner will check the vehicle before the test begins. It must be in safe operating condition and have the required equipment or the road test will not be administered. (Check state drivers manual for required equipment) The license examiner may refuse to give the road test in the event of hazardous weather, road conditions or an inability to effectively communicate.

NON-DRIVERS ID CARD

A citizen of Alabama may apply for a non-driver identification card at any location in the state where driver testing is done. The same degree of proof of identification required of applicants for a drivers license is required for non-driver ID cards. Identification cards are issued to applicants who do not physically qualify for a drivers license, do not have a current license, or wish to discontinue driving and surrender their drivers license. The non-drivers identification card bears a number, as well as name, date of birth, physical address, description of holder, and a color photograph of the holder.
