Juvenile Court Services
Responsibilities & Services
As a division of District Court, Juvenile Court addresses matters concerning delinquency, child in need of supervision (CHINS), and dependency cases involving children younger than 18 years of age. To initiate a petition, please contact an intake officer.

About Us

Located on the first floor in Room 136 of the Shelby County Courthouse in Columbiana, the office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Please be aware that security prohibits entry with any open container, camera cell phone, and/or any instrument considered a weapon.

The Juvenile Probation Office is comprised of:
  • A chief / director of court services
  • A senior probation officer
  • Two intake officers
  • Seven field probation officers
  • A clinical coordinator
  • A mental health liaison
  • A coordinator for the Children's Policy Council
  • Two clerical staff

Inquiries and new case referrals will be addressed by the intake officers on staff. They will determine legal jurisdiction and direct matters accordingly. It is strongly suggested that you contact them by phone first to prevent any unnecessary delay.
