  WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED? Shelby County Personnel is located at 200 West College Street, Columbiana, AL 35051.
  WHAT ARE YOUR OFFICE HOURS? Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  WHEN DO YOU ACCEPT APPLICATIONS? Applications are accepted in the Shelby County Personnel Department from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Applications are also accepted by fax at (205) 669-3959.  We also accept applications by mail.   WHAT IS YOUR APPLICATION PROCESS? Click here to find out how to apply for a County position.
  HOW LONG DOES MY APPLICATION STAY ON FILE?  Applications of candidates will be kept on file for two (2) years from the date of application.  Applicants must submit a separate application form for each position of interest.
  HOW OFTEN ARE POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT UPDATED?  Position announcements are updated every Friday as needed.
  DO YOU HIRE FIREFIGHTERS OR POLICE OFFICERS OR DO YOU HIRE FOR THE SHELBY COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE?  No. Firefighters and Police Officers are hired by each individual municipality. Sheriff's Office employees are hired through the Shelby County Law Enforcement Personnel Board (LEPB).  You may reach the LEPB by calling (205) 670-6121.
  HOW DO I SET UP DIRECT DEPOSIT?  Complete an Authorization Agreement for Automatic Deposits form and return to the Personnel Department along with a copy of a check or a voided check. Deposit slips are not acceptable. 
  CAN I REVIEW MY PERSONNEL RECORDS?  Yes. Complete a Request to View Personnel File form and forward to the Personnel Department.  A Personnel Department Representative will contact you to schedule a convenient time to review your files. 
  HOW DO I CANCEL A DEDUCTION?  Fill out a Payroll Deduction Cancellation form, and return the form to the Personnel Department.  
  CAN I GET A COPY OF MY JOB DESCRIPTION?  Yes, simply submit a written request to the Personnel Department.
  HOW DO I GET A REPLACEMENT FOR MY LOST OR BROKEN ID BADGE/TIMECARD?  Contact your department head who in turn should submit a written request stating the reason for replacement.  Broken ID Badges/Timecards should be returned to the Personnel Department before a new card will be issued.  There is a $5.00 charge for replacement of lost cards and if you do not return your broken card.
  WHAT IS THE PROBATIONARY PERIOD?  All appointments to regular positions in the classified service are subject to a six month probationary period during which the new employee's work and conduct are monitored by the supervisor and/or department head.  Employees who successfully complete the probationary period gain regular employment status and have full rights under the Shelby County Civil Service Act #93-664.
  WHAT KIND OF HEALTH/DENTALPLAN DO YOU HAVE?  Health Insurance coverage is provided through the Local Government Health Insurance Program (LGHIP) administered through the State Employees Insurance Board (SEIB).  Claims are processed and paid through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and United Health Care.  Dental Insurance coverage is provided through Delta Dental Insurance Company.

  WHAT KIND OF RETIREMENT PLAN DO YOU OFFER?  DO YOU HAVE A DEFFERED COMPENSTION PLAN?  Shelby County employees participate in the Employees' Retirement System of Alabama.  Deferred Compensation plans are offered through RSA-1 and Nationwide Financial Services.
